WHY UNDERPRIVILEGED ADOLESECENT MOTHERS MATTER TO US ?
Becoming a mother at a young age can be overwhelming and challenging for any teenager girl. Balancing the responsibilities of motherhood with the demands of school, work, and personal growth can seem impossible without the proper support and resources.
According to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), every day in developing countries, 20,000 girls under age 18 give birth.
Adolescent pregnancy is generally not the result of a deliberate choice – these girls often have little say over decisions affecting their lives. Rather, early pregnancy is a consequence of rape or extreme poverty that push teenager girls into prostitution to survive.
Adolescent mothers face a set of challenges that can have long-lasting impact for their physical, emotional, and socioeconomic well-being.
These challenges include limited access to education, financial instability, social stigma, and a lack of support networks. Without proper guidance and assistance, these young mothers may find themselves trapped in a cycle of poverty and struggle to provide a stable future for themselves and their children.
Hope Backup International strongly believes that support is crucial for underprivileged adolescent mothers to overcome the obstacles they face. If encouraged, guided and provided with resources needed, those underprivileged adolescent mothers can navigate the complexities of motherhood while still pursuing their own dreams and aspirations. Support also plays a vital role in combating the social stigma that adolescent mothers often face.
Therefore, Hope Backup International works to address some of these challenges by providing support to the underprivileged adolescent mothers, starting from Rwanda. Through our various programs and initiatives, we aim to provide to those underprivileged adolescent mothers in Rwanda with the tools and support they need to work their way out of poverty and build a brighter future for themselves and their children. Hope Backup International also advocates supporting girls who become pregnant so they can return to school and reach their full potential.
